Squarespace new releases and how to make sure you use them
If you've logged into Squarespace recently and thought "ooooh it looks all different", you're not imagining it. Squarespace has rolled out a whole load of design upgrades that genuinely change what a small business website can look and feel like, without needing to code.
Here's what's new, and how you can use it.
Finish Layer This is Squarespace's new set of pro level design tools, now built right into the editor. Think subtle animated backgrounds, and richer customisation over how things move and feel on your site. It used to take custom code (or a developer) to get this kind of polish. Now you can do this much easier.
More control over how your content shows up Blocks on your site, your images, text, buttons, can now be arranged, layered and sized with far more flexibility than before. It sounds technical, but the result is simple: your pages can have more depth and personality, without looking cluttered or "off".
Mobile finally gets its own say This is the one I'm most excited about for my clients. You can now design a different layout for mobile than you have on desktop, and choose to hide certain blocks on mobile altogether. Most of your visitors are on their phones, so this means your site can be built properly for how people actually browse, rather than a squashed down version of the desktop site.
Why this matters for you
None of these features are easy to stumble across. They live in menus most people never open, and using them well takes a bit of design judgement, knowing what to add and, just as importantly, what to leave out.
That's the part I love doing. If your site is starting to feel a bit flat, or you know it doesn't look right on mobile, this could be the perfect moment for a refresh. Drop me a message and let's have a chat about what's possible for your site!
