5 reasons your website may not be converting and what you can do to fix it.

If your website isn’t generating leads, sales, or enquiries, it’s not always because you need a shiny new design. More often, it’s the simple conversion blockers that are tripping you up. Here are five of the most common reasons your website isn’t converting and the easy fixes you can make today.

The messaging on your website isn’t clear

Why it matters: Visitors need to know what you do within seconds of landing on your site. Did you know that the average time for someone to decide if they want to stay is just 0.05 seconds - not long is it!

Quick fix: Write a headline that clearly explains your value proposition in plain English - i.e. take out all the jargon. Add a short subheading to highlight your main benefit. Test it on someone outside your industry, if they don’t get it then re-write it.  We have all been guilty of using our industry jargon thinking everyone knows what it means!

A slow website kills the conversions

Why it matters: A slow website kills trust and attention. Every extra second of load time drops conversion rates.

Quick fix: Often this is caused by large images, start by reducing the size of these and see if it makes a difference..

Look at your call to actions (CTA’s)

Why it matters: If visitors don’t know what to do next, they won’t take action. Vague CTAs like “Click Here” or buttons buried too far down a page are conversion killers..

Quick fix:Use strong language that makes it clear straight away what you are getting by clicking “Get My Free Quote” or “Start Your Trial Today.”  Then make sure you repeat these throughout the site, avoiding too many different versions that can lead to confusion.

Poor mobile experience

Why it matters: With more than half of web traffic now coming from mobile, a poor mobile experience means you’re losing half your potential conversions.

Quick fix: Check your site on mobile and try to complete a form with one thumb. If not then get to work on fixing that.  You may also need to look at increasing button sizes and text for easy tapping.

Lack of trust signals

Why it matters: If visitors don’t feel confident in your business, they won’t convert. No reviews, testimonials, or proof of credibility = low trust.

Quick fix: Add client testimonials, star ratings, or case studies.  Display logos of brands you’ve worked with. Show clear contact details, not just a hidden form.
Be more personal, add a picture of you if you are the founder and write your back story, people buy from people after all!
